For those that struggle with trust, I totally understand that too. I made my own decision as I hope was understood in the "Thanks Nebbs!" post earlier. As many of you know by reading my blog and what I've shared here and around The Colony, I learned at an early age not to trust even those we should be able to trust as a matter of human nature.
Some of the hard work I've done in therapy and with people around me has included learning better who to choose to trust and who not to even take the risk with, and sometimes I am still wrong. When it comes to The Colony I have decided to take everyone at “face value” (pardon the pun) as I have felt safe to do so. That has been a big part of why I feel like you are a family to me.
My progress has also included the notion that it is ok to change my mind based on further information and/or listening to my gut. I used to be the kind of person (and still battle the concept) that once you are my friend it is necessary for me to always, without question, be a friend.
Despite my personal struggles I still believe in and want to think the best of people. While that has not always played out to be true I don’t want to change that in myself because of one experience. Fortunately, taking the risk here and in real life has meant more reward than disappointment.
If making the decision for yourself has meant ending this relationship with Nebby I understand (not that anyone has asked for or needs my permission), especially if that decision has to do with taking good care of *you*. I think you all know that is something I’ve promoted since I first joined The Colony, my belief that everyone should make the best decisions he/she can when it comes to taking care of self.
I intended my last blog to be the end of my input into this situation but upon further reflection I felt I needed to say more. I am choosing to look at this as another life experience, no matter how it all plays out, but think it is time for me to move on from the subject as I have way more important things going on in my life. (I hope that didn’t sound disrespectful. I just mean that I don’t want to use any more spoons on this.)

Thanks Nebbs!
A friend of mine came to me the other day with a confession. She had lied to me. She explained why she lied. She asked for forgiveness.
She could have kept lying but instead she chose to be a big girl with her big girl panties on and took the risk that I might end our friendship over it. I have a lot of respect for her for doing that.
I didn’t hesitate. I didn’t even feel like forgiveness was the right word. It was more that I accepted her apology because she needed that from me. I was mostly sad that she felt the need to lie.
The lie was something minor in my world and it does not change who I think she is at her core. I am choosing to trust that belief.
What if I am wrong? Well, then that will play itself out and I will have to make another decision.
What if I am right? Then I will continue to have a special lady in my life who knows what friendship, trust, forgiveness, and consequences mean.
Either way, she has given me the opportunity to prove that I know what friendship, trust, forgiveness, and consequences means too.
