3/3/09 Blog reply to MS post of a friend

Sharing my reply to a friend about the Power of the Mind

I SO agree with you about the Power of Your Mind. For me, I have to work on the concept that the glass IS 1/2 full, not 1/2 empty, but that it still is what it is and does have value/meaning. Seeing it as 1/2 empty might be more "real" sometimes (personally I am having to work on being more real because I tend to down play by trying to make that glass 1/2 full even though I know it is not) but living in that reality has been toxic for me. Living in that "reality" DEFINED me and that was not fair to the person I really am. Denial of what reality might be, defaulting to the negative Power of my Mind, has been a big challenge -- why I now try to blog and acknowlege in a more real (sometimes, yes, depresssing) way. You might have noticed that sometimes I admit that I just have to put things "out there", to acknowledge and to offer others the opportunity to support me. That has been very powerful and healing. Yes, I can delete, and have, but knowing that at least a small handful of people have read and acknowledged back to me gives me Power OVER my Mind - by acknowledging the reality but allowing the positivite (which can be very POWERFUL) that may have resulted from that reality. For example, severely (it is what it is) being abused and neglected has helped make me fairly independent. BUT, while that IS a good thing, I continue to work on letting people in so that I don't HAVE to be totally independent. The Power of Negativity can also make it difficult to let the Power of Positivity in. "My life experiences do not define me but they do help explain my journey". Accepting that for too much of my life it was less than 1/2 full, I am working (sometimes fighting all the way to get past the obststacles) on have a big 'ol full glass - a goal, my new journey, my real reality. I hope I've said something that helps you feel understood/acknowledged and that maybe some of my own experience (and years of therapy) helps you in some way -- also a part of why I blog and share like I do. Thank you for giving me, and many others, the opportunity. xo Read more: http://www.myspace.com/colonykat/blog#ixzz10U49XcYb
